CELEBRATING THE SUCCESS OF UNCITRAL ASIA PACIFIC DAY 2024 AT VILLA COLLEGE

Villa College, Faculty of Shariah and Law, is proud to celebrate the success of our 4th UNCITRAL Asia Pacific Day 2024, organized in collaboration with the UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific, The Maldives National University, and Villa College Law Society Maldives.

This year’s theme, “Transparency in International Investment Agreements: Evolution and UNCITRAL’s Role,” brought together legal professionals, ADR practitioners, academics, and students to engage in meaningful discussions.

Mr. Amish Abdullah, Lecturer and Executive Advisor of Villa College Law Society, opened the event with remarks highlighting the significance of collaborative efforts in fostering international engagement. Ms. Ruth Teitelbaum, an international arbitrator, provided an insightful analysis of how transparency standards have evolved in international investment agreements, emphasizing the increasing role of accountability. Prof. Kriti Johri delved into the core components of transparency, offering a practical perspective on how these elements shape investment law. A special recorded message from Ms. Athita Komindr, Head of UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific, focused on UNCITRAL’s framework and its pivotal contributions to advancing transparency standards globally.

The discussions, expertly moderated by Mr. Parth Tyagi, encouraged valuable dialogue and reflections among participants. The event concluded with Ms. Khushi Goel’s closing remarks, summarizing the key takeaways, and emphasizing the importance of continued efforts in this area.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our speakers, participants, and organizers for making this event a success. Together, we continue to champion transparency and collaboration in international investment law.
