Villa College recently celebrated Multicultural Night 2024. The event was graced by the presence of Aishath Shimla, the Deputy Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage, who served as the chief guest for the evening.
During her address, Deputy Minister Shimla emphasised the importance of learning about one’s own cultural heritage. She also highlighted how such experiences enrich our understanding and foster mutual respect among diverse communities. Her remarks focused on the value of cultural exchange in deepening connections across different societies and countries.
This semester’s Multicultural Night showcased the diversity of seven countries, represented by the students through creative expression. The event was a testament to the students’ dedication, as they curated decorations and cuisines from their respective countries. These elements highlighted the uniqueness of each culture and also offered an insight into global traditions and practices.
The cultural performances were a highlight of the evening, with students presenting a variety of acts that captured the essence of their chosen cultures. Performances ranged from traditional dance routines to storytelling and fashion showcases. Each performance was a celebration of cultural heritage and demonstrated the students' talent and commitment to sharing these traditions.
