This programme provides the content and pedagogical knowledge needed to teach young learners; this will include discussion of concepts, appropriate learning theories, child development and the use of approaches and strategies. Techniques to develop higher order thinking and communication skills are embedded in the programme. Additionally, this programme promotes a reflective model of teaching that pays attention to student diversity and the implementation of intervention strategies.

A related Bachelor’s Degree OR
A related Graduate Diploma at Level 8
Note: "Related” implies that the applicant should have either a MNQF level 7 or level 8 qualification in Education/teaching or similar area.)
Alternative Entry Criteria
25 years old, completion of a related Level 5 qualification, and 7 years of relevant experience (of which 3.5 years of experience is obtained after completion of a Level 5 qualification), and completion of an MQA approved Pre-Master’s Programme.OR
25 years old, completion of a related Level 6 qualification, and 6 years of relevant experience (of which 3 years of experience is obtained after completion of a Level 6 qualification), and completion of an MQA approved Pre-Master’s Programme.
MVR 4,350 per month x 15 months
Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:
Demonstrate the essential content knowledge and practical classroom skills to perform competently as a critically reflective teacher
Comprehend the intellectual, social, and psychological aspects of their work with learners, and synthesize theory and practice
Understand the key concepts in curriculum and curriculum development with regard to young learners
Evaluate and use constructive criticism of their own work and of the institutions in which they will teach
Develop theoretical understandings of schooling and education, and implement an ongoing programme of self-education appropriate to their personal and professional needs
Understand child development, higher order thinking skills, socialisation in early childhood, and possess teaching skills in today’s changing context
