This programme prepares graduates to teach and implement the new national curriculum in primary grades. The main focus is on developing practitioners to provide value-based education combined with enduring skills and competencies outlined in the national curriculum which are also in alignment with 21st century skills. Paramount importance is given to widening graduates’ knowledge and skills in English, Mathematics and Science. The programme provides extensive and professional experience opportunities through strong teaching practicum components. It embeds inquiry-based reflective practices to prepare teachers for environments where there is a degree of unpredictability. The general objectives are:
- Demonstrate a broad understanding of main theories, concepts and principles of education, curriculum and pedagogy; and integrate them into the teaching environment.
- Apply specialised skills and practices in professional contexts to teaching environments where there is a degree of unpredictability.
- Use professional-level insights to evaluate and synthesize solutions to address issues related to primary teaching
- Use a range of skills in language, mathematics, communication and ICT and specialized skills in the subject area for strengthening established practices
- Work autonomously to undertake responsibilities at the professional level in teaching and leadership of primary schools, in an ethical manner
