In order to ensure that students are able to get the kind of help they need in their studies, there are two different forms of assistance available at the moment.
There are academic writing workshops to ensure that students are able to write in English, with different sessions that focus not only on writing but other language skills as well. These include different online activities and regular feedback. One of these workshops, on UWE referencing, is conducted especially in the first two weeks of each semester.
Additionally, there are E-Tutes that are meant to help individual students with the difficulties they have with assignments in general, especially covering planning, writing and referencing issues, and other academic issues. Students can access E-Tutes either face to face, through phone calls or online.
This is a set of online tutorials and advice designed to help UWE students prepare for academic study. The resources are extremely useful for students who are in the first or second semester of their studies. You can use the UWE username and password to log-in to the resources.

The Academic Phrasebank by the University of the Manchester is a general resource for academic writers. It aims to provide students with examples of some of the phraseological ‘nuts and bolts’ of writing organised according to the main sections of a research paper or dissertation. This will also be very useful in writing assignments.
