Master of Arts in Human Resource Management

The Master of Human Resource Management programme is targeted towards individuals who wish to specialise in human resource management. The programme is tailored to working practitioners and future professionals alike, providing both international HRM perspectives and a deeper understanding of issues specific to the Maldivian context, thereby giving greater exposure and insights into the local context. It ensures that participants develop a deep understanding of the field through conceptual and experiential learning opportunities; get acquainted with the necessary tools and frameworks to develop and implement HRM policies and develop a reflective approach to practice through analytical thinking. Individuals who successfully complete the programme will have a competitive edge in the market, with better opportunities in their career path.

Graduates will receive a Master of Arts degree with a concentration in Human Resource Management.

Entry Requirement

General Entry Criteria

  • A related Bachelor’s Degree OR

  • A related Graduate Diploma at Level 8

Alternative Entry Criteria

  • 25 years old AND
    completion of a related Level 5 qualification AND

  • 7 years of relevant experience (of which 3.5 years of experience is obtained after completion of a Level 5 qualification) AND

  • Completion of an MQA-approved Pre-Master’s Program OR 

  • 25 years old AND
    completion of a related Level 6 qualification AND

  • 6 years of relevant experience (of which 3 years of experience is obtained after completion of a Level 6 qualification) AND

  • Completion of an MQA-approved Pre-Master’s Program

Leaning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this programme participants will be able to: 

  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of contemporary practices, underlying theories, HR functions in the HR system, the regulatory and legal requirements and the importance of conduct and professionalism in HR.

  • Demonstrate a broad and integrated understanding of how to apply the concepts and tools in HR areas of managing human capital, resourcing and talent acquisition, leadership, compensation, reward, employee engagement and relations, employment law, and performance management, in solving problems in the key areas of HR.

  • Demonstrate a broad and integrated understating of acquiring leadership style for different situations; setting targets, motivating, monitoring performance, coaching and mentoring.

  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of how to evaluate and apply appropriate strategies on HRM based on current scenarios facing HR in the organisations.

  • Acquire critical thinking skills and research skills that are appropriate for carrying out a range of activities independently for study purposes and for workplace application.

  • Apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate self-reliance, well-developed judgement, adaptability and responsibility as a practitioner or learner in the field of Human Resource Management.

  • Attain independent learning skills and enthusiasm for the field.

  • Enhances student’s employability as HR professionals
